Who:

Very Beginners- no experience necessary.

Ages 7and up, (children who are mature enough to sit quietly and follow instructions for the 2.5 hour class.) No experience necessary.

What:

No experience is needed for our Beginning Sewing Class! In this class we will cover how to safely use the sewing machine, as well as all the prep work like cutting, pinning and pressing. Through a variety of fun projects your child will learn how to sew, problem solve, plan and design. The skills gained through this class are the fundamental skills for a life-long sewist. This is a great refresher course for those who have not sewn recently. Beginning sewing is the pre-requisite for all of our classes making this class a great place to get started.

Skills we will cover:

  • Parts of the sewing machine.

  • How to thread the machine.

  • Spinning a bobbin.

  • How to sew straight, zigzag, curved, backwards stitches.

  • Pivoting.

  • Sewing a seam allowance.

  • Turning a project.

  • Double-turned hems.

  • Hand sewing.

  • And much more

What we will be making:

All projects will be small useful items that cover the skills listed above. Projects will most likely include a bag, pillow and stuffed animal.

Where:

Classes are held at our garden studio location on O street in Eureka, near Henderson Center. You will be emailed our exact location in our confirmation email one week prior to class.

What to bring:

 Campers are welcome to bring water and a snack.

 All materials are included in the cost of this camp.

If you have fabric you would like to use feel free to bring it along. We provide all materials needed for this class and have a good selection of fabric, however bringing a fabric you truly love is a great way to make a project even more memorable. Please keep to quilting weight cottons with no stretch. 

 

Mornings can be chilly yearround in our climate, please send your child with layers so they are comfortable. 

wearing sturdy shoes is important for greater foot petal control ( flip flops are highly discouraged).
